A multi-sport organization, the Pacific Southwest AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs in the California Counties of San Diego and Imperial. Opportunity or Obligation?
From September 2008 through August of 2009, The Pacific Southwest District of the Amateur Athletic Union set enrollment records for both clubs (305) and members (9,267). This obviously speaks well of the continued interest in the Amateur Athletic Union in our remote corner of the United States. However when compared to the 3,211,721 living in the San Diego and Imperial County region, our AAU membership represents only .00288 of our district residents.
When compared to the youth population between the ages of 10 and 17 (339,560), AAU membership in 2008-2009 improved to .0273 when compared to the general population after an Olympic year.
There has never been a more critical time to grow the Mission of the Amateur Athletic Union in the Pacific Southwest District than now. Here's how you can help:
- Join the AAU as an athlete or non-athlete (coach, official, volunteer).
- Start a club and attach your athletes and non-athletes to receive club level benefits.
- Host an event. Sanctioning your event with AAU has many benefits.
- Join the Pacific Southwest AAU District Leadership Team to help solidify plans to make the 2010 year the best ever in San Diego and Imperial County.
